The pilot worked. That's the problem.
A successful AI pilot on a rented API proves one thing: the model can do the task. That was never the hard question.
The demo is going well. The pilot takes a stack of supplier contracts and summarises them in the time it takes to pour a coffee. The summaries are good. Better than good: the head of procurement leans forward, which in procurement is the equivalent of a standing ovation.
Then the CFO asks the question everyone was hoping for. How fast can we roll this out to everyone?

Renting intelligence is the new outsourcing mistake
For AI work that is core to your business and runs every day, renting it through an API hands a supplier three things: the price, the roadmap and the rules of access.

How much GPU does a model actually need? The VRAM math
GPU memory (VRAM) sets the ceiling on how large, and how lightly compressed, a model you can run. It doesn't make a model smarter. It decides which models you can use.

What are the different types of AI in the market, and which is suited to my business?
Business AI comes down to three separate questions: what it does, how you get it, and how big it has to be. Answer them separately.

The EU AI Act, read by an engineer
The EU AI Act sorts AI by risk. Most business uses sit in the lower tiers. The heavy duties fall on high-risk systems and on the makers of general-purpose AI models.

AI is a heat problem wearing a software costume
The AI conversation is about models, prompts and agents. The limit on owned AI is often physics: every watt a server draws ends up as heat in the room.
